    Callaway History


    Callaway was named for William Rodger Callaway, born in Toronto, Canada. He was a passenger agent for the Soo Line Railroad Company in the early 1900's when the Railroad was being built through this area. In 1904, the railroad came through Callaway, and the town was established and recognized by the County goverment in 1906.

    The village of Callaway is located in Callaway Township of Becker County. It lies about 11 miles north of Detroit Lakes along US Hwy. 59. It has an elevation of 1300 feet, with gently rolling terrain, light to moderately wooded. (taken from "Callaway, Minnesota - 90 years, 1906-1996")
