Dick Beardsley Fishing Report

The opener here in the Detroit Lakes area was pretty
tough mainly because of the weather! Cold, rain, and
wind kept the numbers down especially on Saturday.
There were walleyes to be caught though. Lizzie,
Crystal, Pelican, White Earth, Sallie, Island, Big
Toad, Detroit, and Round all kicked out a few fish.
Jigs, Lindy Rigs, and Spinners were all working using
minnows or leeches in anywhere from 10-35 ft.
depending on what lake you were on. Hopefully with
some warmer more stable weather the bite should really
start to go. Crappies and sunfish are going on area
lakes and on the warmer, sunnier days the fish will be
found up in shallow water, but look deeper on the cold
cloudy days. Please remember to practice selective harvesting,

by doing so we will continue to have great fishing for years to come!

Have a great day on the water!
