- Average Weight: 3/4 to 4 pounds
- Preferred Water Temperature: 53 to 69 degrees
Fahrenheit
- Location: Entire United States except far south.
- Feeding Characteristics: Active feeding generally
occurs during subdued daylight and at night when they search water areas
providing insects, smaller fish and crayfish. Locate Brown Trout in moving
water, variable depth, hard b ottom areas of lakes, rivers and streams by
working sunked weedbeds, submerged islands, sunken logs, undercut banks,
protruding shorelines, deep pools and around bridges or boulders, downstream
of any current.
- Angling Methods: Brown trout are extremely wary and
must be approached quietly and slowly. They will take small spoons, spinners
or plugs worked near the bottom in areas having their preferred water
temperature. Usa a slow retr ieve with pauses to allow lure to rise and then
flutter down. They will also take night crawlers, worms, minnows, crayfish,
and insects still fished or drifted slowly near the bottom. They take naturals
very softly so watch the line carefully for any abno rmal movement or lack of
movement and strike if in doubt. Be aware of teeth when handling.
